Croatian civil protection recommends a backpack, bag or sturdy carrier with what you need if you have to leave home quickly. Since 2025 the European Commission has recommended that every household can manage on its own for at least 72 hours, because the first days of a crisis are the hardest and help doesn't reach everyone at once.
Croatian civil protection lists supplies for at least 2 days. The amounts below are scaled to 3 days, following the EU recommendation.
The list
- Water: bottled, 1.5 to 2 litres per person per day, so 4.5 to 6 litres per person for 3 days.
- Food: tinned or dried, the kind you normally eat, not too salty or sweet. A tin opener.
- Medicines and aids: the medicines you take regularly, glasses, plasters, bandages, disinfectant.
- Hygiene: toothbrush and toothpaste, face masks, tissues, toilet paper, sanitary pads, hand gel.
- A battery radio and spare batteries. When the power goes, the radio is often the only source of instructions.
- Torch, whistle, matches or a lighter, bin bags, duct tape.
- A charged power bank. Add your phone when you leave.
- Cash and documents (ID card, passport, health insurance card, or copies).
- Phone numbers on paper: household, relatives, friends. For any emergency, call 112.
- Sleeping bag or blanket.
- A map with evacuation routes marked.
- Food and supplies for pets, if you have them.
Who else you're packing for
If your household includes babies, older people or people with disabilities, pack their things too: baby food and nappies, aids, medicines, chargers for medical devices. Show everyone at home where the kit is and what's in it.
