When something happens, the household is often in different places, and the mobile network may be overloaded or down. A plan agreed in advance means everyone knows what to do without a phone.
What the plan covers
- Important numbers and other ways to reach each other, for example an agreed place to leave written notes.
- Meeting places if you're apart: one near home (outdoors, e.g. after an earthquake) and one outside the neighbourhood, in case you can't get home.
- One person outside your town whom everyone calls and who passes on news.
- Evacuation routes from home and from town.
- What to do if you can't get home or reach the others.
- Who does what: who takes the kit, who collects the children, who helps older relatives or pets.
- Safe spots at home and where to shut off gas, power and water.
Everyone at home should know the plan. Go through it with children, and keep a paper copy with the kit.
People with disabilities
People with disabilities in Croatia can add details to the Register of Persons with Disabilities through e-Citizens (phone, e-mail, preferred way of communicating, floor and entrance, carer or assistant), so rescuers know in advance what help is needed.
