Follow the DHMZ warnings, and check the road conditions before you travel.
Outside
- Don't go out unless you have to.
- Walk on cleared pavements, slowly, in small steps, looking ahead.
- Wear shoes with rubber, grippy soles.
- Keep your hands out of your pockets and don't carry anything heavy: it upsets your balance.
- On stairs, hold the handrail.
- Take care next to buildings and under trees: snow and ice can fall suddenly.
- Don't touch uninsulated power lines or shake snow off them.
- Don't walk on frozen lakes and ponds. Ice must be thicker than 12 cm, and never step on grey ice.
If you own a house or flat
- Clear the path and pavement in front of your house or building regularly, and grit them with salt or sand. It's your legal duty, not a favour.
- Remove snow that could fall from your roof and injure someone. If you can't do it safely yourself, hire someone.
If you have a vehicle
- Clear snow and ice off the whole vehicle before driving. Winter equipment is compulsory.
- Don't park next to buildings or under trees that can drop snow or ice.
