When an epidemic starts, the measures are set by the authorities: the Ministry of Health, the Croatian Institute of Public Health and the civil protection headquarters. Follow their instructions. This is what civil protection and HZJZ advise everyone, always.
What you can do
- Wash your hands often and thoroughly with soap and warm water.
- Avoid close contact with people who have symptoms.
- When you cough or sneeze, cover your nose and mouth with a tissue or your elbow.
- Air rooms often.
- In the respiratory disease season and during epidemics, avoid big crowds.
- Buy food from trusted sellers, and store and prepare it properly.
- Drink water you know is safe.
Around the house
- Get rid of standing water in the yard and things it can collect in: mosquitoes breed in it.
- Keep organic waste bins closed, so they don't attract insects, rodents, cats and birds.
- Keep the yard tidy.
If you fall ill
- Contact your own doctor for advice.
- Call 194 or 112 when it's urgent, for example sudden difficulty breathing, sudden chest pain or loss of consciousness.
